Revitalized Heritage

From the Former Lau Fau Shan Police Station,
to Hong Kong Guide Dogs Academy

Opened in 1963, Lau Fau Shan Police Station sits on a hill and once carried the historic responsibility of guarding the border and preventing smuggling and illegal immigration. It was assessed as a Grade III historic building.Today, through the Development Bureau's "Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme," this heritage site has been transformed into the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Academy. From "guarding the border" to "nurturing steady companions who protect people with visual impairments," a new chapter filled with warmth begins here.

After revitalisation, the Lau Fau Shan Police Station not only retains many of its original features but also adds space for guide dog training. When the public steps into this historic building, they can learn about the station's past operations through the watchtower, bullet loading and unloading areas, armory, and detention cells; understand the importance of ecological conservation in the Deep Bay area and the development of Lau Fau Shan's oyster industry; and gain deeper insights into information related to guide dogs.Although its identity has changed, the spirit of "protection" remains. Even though the way of protecting others has changed, the mission continues under its new life.
